Risk
Based Inspection |

( IIS-BKS
Cooperation)

The Risk Based
Inspection (RBI) is a plant investigation approach, referring
to the API 580/581 Standards using the risk as a basis
to define the plant inspection programme and identify the
relevant action priorities. |

|
|
Because, generally
, a significant percentage of risk refers o a limited number of
components, the RBI allows to concentrate the inspection and
maintenance resources where the risk has been estimated higher,
optimizing costs while guaranteeing a higher level of
reliability. |
|
The
risk is featured by two main factors: the likelihood of failure
(LOF) and the consequence of failure (COF). The approach
provides three different level of analysis: qualitative,
semi-quantitative ad quantitative, with of course different
levels of result accuracy. |
|
In order to obtain
a reliable outcome, the input data are to be singled out and
collected by an integrated team both from the plant and the
inspection body personnel where all the necessary competencies
(process, materials, welding,NDT,corrosion and safety) are
represented at a adequate level of knowledge and experience.
Then the input data are to be processed by an appropriate
software (the Italian Institute of Welding operates with the
American Petroleum Institute - API- software ver.3.3.3, with
option to the ver.6) ,able to interface, through a proper
kit, with the plat management software. |
|
In addition to
the plant management, the national and international involved
Authorities as well as the Insurance Companies are recognizing
the RBI as a fit tool to conduct the inspection and
maintenance activities.
